Assigning Weed Threat Ratings

All introduced species in the State florawere assigned a rating (1-5, using Table 1 above) for each of the new 12 weed habitat groups.

A rating of 1 was assigned to a species for a habitat group if it was considered unsuitable or unlikely for it. Species requiring permanent or seasonal inundation were assigned ratings only to groups 2, 10 and 11.

As funding was a small grant, weed ratings have been revised without exhaustive referencing of the literature, and have drawn on the unpublished observations of ecologists at NCS and  regional NRM officers in the weed consultation of 2012.

Two local publications were however, particularly useful:

Caton B, Fotheringham D, Lock C, Royal M, Sandercock R and Taylor R (2007). Southern Fleurieu Coastal Action plan and Conservation Priority Study. Prepared for Adelaide and Mount Lofty NRM Board, Alexandrina Council, City of Victor Harbor, District Council of Yanakilla, Goolwa to Wellington Local Action Pland and Department for Environment and Heritage.

Sandercock R and Schmucker P (2006). Environmental Weeds of Concern in the Northern and Yorke Natural Resource Management Coastal Region. Prepared by the Coastal Protection Branch and the Environmental Information Analysis Branch, Department for Environment and Heritage SA, For the Northern and Yorke Natural Resource Management Board.

*All Declared Plants were individually searched for information on habitat and rainfall requirements.
